Technical Guidelines
- All films must be uploaded onto YouTube and their links must be submitted to the Summer Film Festival form or they will not be considered for selection and screening.
- Submission’s total run-time (TRT) must not exceed 15 minutes. Credits are not included in your TRT, and the credit runtime must NOT exceed 30 seconds.
- We strongly recommend that you triple-check your audio levels and ensure your audio is NOT limited to one channel (i.e. right or left).
- The creation of posters and trailers is optional and can be used for promoting films by the creators.
- Any film that includes dialogues that are not in English must be submitted with English subtitles and packaged into the submitted video file.
- If your film has subtitles, please make sure they are “title safe”. For a detailed explanation of “title safe”, please watch this video explanation.
When uploading your video on YouTube, you must use the following naming conventions:
FirstNameLastName_FilmTitle
Example:
JaneDoe_MyMovie
- Do not submit films in 4K. Please submit your film in 1080 HD resolution.
- Films will be screened in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Content Guidelines
- All music, images, titles, footage, and other copyrighted material used in your submission MUST be properly licensed. You must have permission and/or the proper rights to all content submitted.
- Various resources offer royalty-free music and images. We strongly encourage you to use original music.
- The Seasider Sports & Activities team reserves the right to switch your submission to a different category as they see fit.
All films must align with the Honor Code standards of Brigham Young University–Hawaii. We will not accept entries that:
- Contain profane or obscene language.
- Glamorize or emphasize any sexual act whether implied or directly stated.
- Make any direct or indirect threat to an individual, group, or entity.
- Harass and/or bully an individual, group, or entity.
- Glamorize and/or graphically depict acts of violence.
- Glamorize any act of selling, consuming, or distributing drugs or alcohol.
- Glamorize any act of theft.
- Videos should not contain unauthorized copyrighted material. Seasider Sports & Activities is not responsible for confirming copyright permissions and any illegal use of copyrighted materials is the responsibility of the entrant. - Costumes must be designed with respect to the BYUH dress and grooming standards.
Eligibility Guidelines
- The film’s director(s) and all cast members must be current students/staff of Brigham Young University–Hawaii while producing the project.
- Any submission that does not meet these guidelines will NOT be considered for judging and will NOT be selected to screen at the Film Festival event.

Selection and Nomination of Winners
- Nominations will be announced on the day of the event, allowing students to share their trailers and posters to promote their films.
- All nominated films will be premiered at the event. After that, the voting portal will open for viewers to vote.
- Once voting portals are closed, awards will be announced and presented shortly after.
- Prizes may be redeemed at the Seasider Sports & Activities Office (CAC 226C), the following week.
- Prizes are non-transferable and are not redeemable in cash or subject to substitution. The odds of winning depend on the number of entries and the quality of each specific entry.
